Russ Becker, Clarinets, Flute, Saxophones
Russ began playing clarinet as a kid in Stamford, CT and went on to major in clarinet at the Hartford Conservatory. He studied clarinet with Richard Debase and Ken Lagace, and saxophone with Ken McIntyre. He has taught clarinet, flute and saxophone at his well respected woodwind studio in Clinton since 1990, and is on the faculty of Community Music School in Centerbrook.
Russ has been a member of the Stamford Symphony, the Hartford Civic Orchestra, Radio Piece 3, Collectively Speaking Jazz Quartet, Chris Leigh Trio, and many other ensembles covering a broad spectrum of musical styles. Russ currently performs in a duo with guitarist Stephen Roane, with his own group, and as a freelance instrumentalist. Russ has done much recording as both leader and sideman, and has several cds of his music currently available.
Also a prolific composer and song writer, Russ' music has been featured on WNET, local and regional radio and television, and has been commissioned by theatre companies, churches, schools, singers and instrumentalists.
Stephen Roane, Guitar
A highly respected musician, Steve has performed and/or recorded with jazz luminaries as Frank Strozier, Eddie Bert, Sir Roland Hanna, John Lewis, Jack Wilkins, Tal Farlow, Diane Schuur, Richard Schindell and Carmen Leggio, performing at Carnegie Hall, Town Hall, Lincoln Center, and The Bottom Line. He has recorded and released 14 albums, and as a composer, has written over 200 works including pieces for string and woodwind quartets, jazz ensembles and modern dance. Steve teaches music privately and is on the faculty of the Community Music School in Essex, CT, and the Music Conservatory of Westchester in White Plains, NY. He also works as a landscape painter and is an audio engineer. Steve lives in Madison, CT.
Derek Van Wormer, Bass
Derek grew up in Clinton, CT and is a graduate of The Morgan School. He has been carving out a name for himself in the New England music scene since moving to Boston in 2002 where he graduated from Berklee College of Music, and continue to call home. An in demand bassist, writer, educator and studio musician, Derek works with an extensive and eclectric array of artists and venues, and has toured nationally with off-Broadway theatre productions out of Nashville and New York City.
Kedric Becker, Drums
A native of Clinton, CT, Kedric is son of musician and educator Russ Becker. He developed a passion for percussion instruments at a very young age and studied drums and marimba with Richard Dart prior to graduating from The Morgan School in 2002. Kedric is a graduate of SUNY Purchase College and works as a behavioral healthcare counselor with a number of agencies. Besides playing jazz, Kedric performs regularly with the New Haven based band "Bad Assets".
